QtWS15- Qt and Windows 10, Maurice Kalinowski, The Qt Company
Qt World Summit 2015, OCTOBER 5-7, BERLIN, GERMANY Qt and Windows 10: Microsoft went through a significant technology and focus shift recently, unifying their platforms towards Windows 10 everywhere. However, there is a lot of confusion what this actually implies to companies and individual developers. What versions of Windows 10 will exist (Windows 10 Home/Pro, Windows 10 Mobile (Enterprise), Windows 10 IoT Core, …)? How do they relate to each other? What is the situation on embedded and mobile, and with Microsoft's Internet of Things strategy? And lastly, what happens to existing Qt solutions, and what is the Qt offering for the whole Windows 10 ecosystem? This talks aims to provide a quick and easy-to-follow summary on the Microsoft product strategy and more importantly how Qt fits into this picture. Qt is the layer providing stability against platform changes, either from the platform vendor or project related requirements changing. By using Qt the project is not tied to a specific platform, even more it easily allows to transform an application project towards an embedded system. This is part 1 of Windows 10 related submissions. Part 2 will talk about the technical details to use Qt on Windows 10.
